Pocahontas Music Performances |
| The first Pocahontas Music recital was entitled "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star - Variations on a Theme." It was broadcast on local NBC TV, area radio and local newspapers. The 3rd graders and guest musicians' performance was enthusiastically received by the community. |
| Pocahontas Music's second performance was even more successful. The 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at Hillsboro Elementary staged a festive holiday performance featuring keyboards, hand bells, vocals and harp. |
| The next performance by students of Pocahontas Music, entitled "Appalachian Spring" was held at the Pearl Buck Birthplace in Hillsboro, WV. The Hillsboro Elementary 3rd, 4th and 5th graders sang, danced, played keyboards and hand bells.
This dramatic performance of "The Night Before Christmas" included a stage set, keyboards, hand bells, actors and a chorus.
This performance was a culmination of a 14-week workshop entitled "Origins of Appalachian Music" made possible by a grant from the West Virginia Humanities Council. The Hillsboro Elementary 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students played guitar and sang both old-time and original tunes, accompanied by West Virginia musicians Kate Long and Robin Kessinger.
Wrapping up the 2009 school year, this performance followed a 3-day workshop, and was made possible by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and local foundations. The Hillsboro Elementary 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students played piano and sang, accompanied by Pianafiddle's Adam DeGraff and Lynn Wright.
